Portable Gadget – Anything and Everything Portable
May 26, 2007
I have just discontinued our newspaper service with the local paper this past weekend. Ever since the marriage of the Internets and media, I have seen little need for us to splurge an extra $13.00 per month on bulletins that I can read online. The only reason we have kept them coming was to be updated on the discount coupons and sales that the Sunday paper brought us. But now, that has also been made online for people to access.
I have bookmarked a number of online newspapers on Mozilla but I realised that most of my current knowledge on recent events have come mostly from blogs, specially those that deal with my field – technology. Just this morning, I read about the PS3 firmware update that I’m sure will have my better half scurrying to the house to update his own console that will make regular DVDs viewable as 1080p on his $600.00 Christmas present.
Portable Gadget is one such website that I prefer to read over online versions of the daily paper. Dedicated to delivering a daily look at portable gadgets in the current market, this blog, since its inception has published a wide array of article on digital cameras, mobile phones, laptops, psp, bluetooth and anything and everything related to portability. This post on the DiscPod Disc Dispenser is of particular interest - it’s one of those quirky things that you find amusing but will never actually buy.
I also find myself trusting the reviews of these blogs more and more over sales associates when I’m on the hunt for a particular gadget or two. It is very frustrating to encounter clueless Best Buy folks who try to convince you that you’ll be able to use that CDMA phone with your SIM card in Asia or that your DVD bought in Japan will play in your Region 1 player bought in California.
In a few months I’ll be shopping for a new portable computer to replace my nearly three year Powerbook. You can bet I won’t be hanging out by the Genius Bar at the Apple Store or seeking out the Geek Squad. I have my bookmarked links and I’m just about to add another one to it.
