Exactly 13 days past the iPhone 4 launch date and I am getting sick and tired of answering co-workers’ queries whether I have my new phone yet. The answer is no and I am at the point of indifference. I am now #4 for a 32gig black at BestBuy and #10 at RadioShack. I have a standing order at AppleStore.com with a shipment estimate of July 15-19 and I am also at a reservation list at my local Apple Store who promised a week long worth of wait.

It’s now a contest of who calls first. Frankly, I feel bad for the sales reps at places like BestBuy and RadioShack (okay, Walmart too) who were promised by Apple scores of phones to fulfill pre-orders but were duped at the last minute. I have trawled forums where irate customers who didn’t get their phones have yelled, berated and cussed at the hapless employees who really can’t do anything since it’s Apple’s prerogative not to ship them more phones.

In the meantime, my 3G still happily chugs along, although quirky at times, as if it knows it’s about to be retired soon.

This past Christmas I went on a spending spree and realized I spent more than my wallet could afford. I had been making written notes of everything I spend any given day but even then I ended up buying more. By the time I came back from vacation I realized I was a couple hundred dollars in the red for that month and felt I needed to take control and quick. Since I have my iPhone with me all the time, I decided to put it to better use and get an app that could help me sort my spending.

Without much research, I ended up shelling $4.99 on the iWallet App from joypiece inc. The very first thing that I noticed about this app is the numerous typo errors. EXPENSE was written as EXPNESE and UNKNOWN as UNKOWN. Minor detail for some but really bothersome for me. Secondly, the app crashes at every opportunity! After adding an income or expense category, after running a report on your monthly running balance, after searching for an entry – the whole thing crashes. I thought a boot up of the iPhone would fix the crashing but no deal. At least it saves the last entry you did prior to crashing.

I also didn’t like is the tiny fonts and the lack of icons for the different categories. To delete a category, you would have to go to Settings . Take note, you can only delete it but you cannot edit. There is an edit button on the top right hand side but when I select a category, nothing happens and that edit button is grayed out. I’m probably doing it wrong but I spent almost fifteen minutes trying to figure it out and I still couldn’t get it to work.

Now the Pros:

The Budget feature (although not very intuitive) is very handy in keeping me in line with my daily expenditure.

Under Expense, you get a Day, Week, Month and Year tally of your money. It’s good to see everything in that one page, no extra buttons to click to find your running balance.

All in all the app helped keep me in line at least for the past week and a half of using it. However, the hassles far outweigh the conveniences on this app and I think that’s $4.99 down the drain. I know I shouldn’t be spending more for a different app since saving is what I got them for in the first place but I think I’d pull my hair out if I keep using this thing.

Edit: Current Version (1.3) fixed the typo errors but not the constant crashing.

Ever since I switched from Yahoo! to Google as my search engine I always looked forward to the logo designs that they come up with for holidays, seasons and current events. Some of my favorites are the Happy B-day Dr. Seuss Logo and Happy New Year 2009. By far my most favorite logo design came out today, and is by celebrated illustrator Eric Carle.

His children’s books are very unique and have a following of fans from all ages. I’m one of those!

Check out his website, it’s one of the most entertaining I have visited in a while without being over the top. It’s simple, straightforward, educational and fun - just like his books! And guess what? He blogs too!!!

I hardly ever talk about music on this site but I have been a listener of Indie 103.1 for at least four years. I drive to work listening to Joe Escalante and have lunch with Steve Jones’s Jonesy’s Jukebox and its replay on my drive home. On Saturdays, I try to wake up at a decent 7:00 a.m. and head to the Farmer’s Market at 9 while listening to Sat Bisla on Passport Approved play the latest underground music from outside the US. My favourites are those from upcoming Scottish, German and Scandinavian bands whose interviews I look forward to every weekend.

I had a feeling that something was amiss when all of a sudden the music they played started sounding weird. At times I double checked to see if I was on the right frequency because I felt like I was listening to K-Earth 101. Then just like that Joe Escalante was gone (Sorry TK, you were boring.) . Then Passport Approved was cut down to just two hours. I was worried but still, Jonesy was around so that was comforting. Then yesterday they dropped the bomb.

Indie Activist:

This is an important message for the Indie 103.1 Radio Audience -

Indie 103.1 will cease broadcasting over this frequency effective immediately. Because of changes in the radio industry and the way radio audiences are measured, stations in this market are being forced to play too much Britney, Puffy and alternative music that is neither new nor cutting edge. Due to these challenges, Indie 103.1 was recently faced with only one option — to play the corporate radio game.

We have decided not to play that game any longer. Rather than changing the sound, spirit, and soul of what has made Indie 103.1 great Indie 103.1 will bid farewell to the terrestrial airwaves and take an alternative course.

This could only be done on the Internet, a place where rules do not apply and where new music thrives; be it grunge, punk, or alternative - simply put, only the best music.

For those of you with a computer at home or at work, log on to www.indie1031.com and listen to the new Indie 103.1 - which is really the old Indie 103.1, not the version of Indie 103.1 we are removing from the broadcast airwaves.

We thank our listeners and advertisers for their support of the greatest radio station ever conceived, and look forward to continuing to deliver the famed Indie 103.1 music and spirit over the Internet to passionate music listeners around the world.

What a shock. No more funky jamming with Jonesy. No more European invasion from Sat Bisla. No more good music. At least not in may car.

All the same I’m glad they stuck to their guns and refused to sell out. Still, it feels totally different now that they’re off the air, what do I listen to now?

Before the year ended I got my hands on a Canon SD870 and just a few weeks prior, work dropped an Asus Eee PC 1000 on my lap. I was supposed to post a review for the laptop but oh well…

I was not planning to get any more toys but guess what? Three days shy of January 1 my Palm Treo 680 died and now my Macbook is threatening to self-destruct. Enough already!

The Treo has been replaced by a Nokia N79 but I am rolling up my sleeves and working to resurrect my Macbook. I wasn’t planning on retiring it until 2010 at the earliest anyway.

How about you, what new toys does this year bring you?
